Starlink, Backed By Elon Musk, Launches Internet Services In Pakistan
Starlink, an internet service provider founded by Elon Musk, has finally registered in Pakistan. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, wants to provide everyone with high-speed internet, focusing on improving connectivity in remote areas.
Its newly launched Starlink Roam service now provides a global internet roaming service. Roam is now available for $150 per month for regional access and $200 per month for worldwide access. The user can pause and resume their subscription anytime, and they will be invoiced in one-month increments.
The service is accessible everywhere, particularly in places with unstable or nonexistent internet access. According to Starlink’s tweets, unique technical features such as laser technology for satellite-to-satellite communication and global roaming are in the works, which conflicts with the current regulations.
Meeting of SpaceX’s Director and Pakistan’s Federal Minister:
Ryan Goodnight, SpaceX’s Director of Global Licensing and Market Activation, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Syed Aminul Haq, to discuss registering in the South Asian country.
Haq took to Twitter to share the news, referring to it as “another step towards Pakistan’s fastest and cheapest satellite internet services.”
The meeting was to discuss how Starlink’s fastest and cheapest satellite internet providers could open up possibilities for affordable broadband services in every corner of Pakistan.
The Minister expressed optimism that, even in remote locations where inactive mobile towers could be inexpensively activated, this services could significantly lower the operational costs of telecom operators.
According to an official statement from the Ministry, this has been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). This will boost the local economy and create more job opportunities as internet access becomes available everywhere in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s advantage in this Elon Musk’s initiative:
Starlink’s registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) is a significant development for the country. By registering with the SECP, Starlink is demonstrating its commitment to operating in a transparent and legal manner. With it’s entry into Pakistan, the local economy is expected to receive a boost as more people gain access to the internet, which will create more job opportunities and promote digital inclusion across the country.
One of the main advantages of Starlink is the potential to close the digital divide between urban and rural areas. Pakistan is a vast country, and many rural areas lack adequate infrastructure to provide high-speed internet access. Starlink’s satellite-based technology is ideally suited to these regions, and its registration with the SECP will enable it to operate within Pakistan’s legal framework. This will help ensure that more people have access to the internet, regardless of their location, which will significantly impact the country’s economy. This will benefit the entire country by providing more options for people to access the internet and will help to promote innovation in the industry.
